F.A.Q.

Ordering From Our Online Store

Q: How long will it take to receive my order?
A: Orders take on average three business days to process and depending on the shipping destination it can take up to five business days. International orders take 7-14 days. We are known for our speedy service and try to process most orders within 48 hours.
Q: How do you calculate shipping?
A: Shipping is calculated based on weight and location. We do not inflate the shipping charges; on many occasions we actually absorb some of the costs
Q: Are there restrictions on coupon usage?
A: Coupons can be applied to all products except the discounted items, insulated box and ice, and seasonal products (because of the limited supply). They cannot be redeemed for cash or credit and they expire 6 months from the date of purchase.
Q: Can I pick up treats from the Sweet & Sara factory?
A: We have several retailers in NYC which carry our vegan marshmallows and smores, but if you happen to be in our neighborhood (Long Island City, Queens) and would like to pick up some treats, please call or e-mail to make an appointment. We’re at (718) 707-2808 and sara@sweetandsara.com. Our factory is open Monday-Thursday from 8:30am-4:00pm. Please call or e-mail to confirm a pick up day and time.

Our Ingredients

Q: Do you use gelatin in your marshmallows?
A: Absolutely not! We pride ourselves on being the first and original manufacturer of gelatin-free, 100% vegetarian and vegan marshmallows. We make our own non-animal based gel using a proprietary formula—rest assured our marshmallows are completely animal-free and simply heavenly!
Q: Why vegan marshmallows? What’s wrong with gelatin?
A: Traditional marshmallows contain gelatin, and many people don’t know what gelatin is. Gelatin is derived from the bones, skin, and organs of animals. Many people choose not to eat gelatin for ethical, religious, and health reasons (gelatin can transmit BSE - Mad Cow Disease!). Up until a few years ago, there were no gelatin-free marshmallows, and many of us went through smore and rice crispy treat withdrawal. It was simply horrible. Then Sweet & Sara came along and now everyone can enjoy scrumptious, gelatin-free, vegetarian and vegan marshmallows!
Q: Are your products gluten-free?
A: Our marshmallows, rocky road bark, and rice crispy treats do not contain gluten but are processed in a facility that processes wheat. While we use good manufacturing practices, have strict cleaning protocols, and clean our equipment thoroughly between production runs, trace amounts may exist and we cannot guarantee that there is no cross-contamination.
Q: Is your palm oil sustainable?
A: Yes! We use Earth Balance: “Our palm oil is sourced from peninsular Malaysia (also a non-native orangutan habitat) where all of their suppliers are members of RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil), the leading global organization developing and implementing global standards for sustainable palm oil production. All palm oil sourced from these suppliers comes only from existing palm plantations, not new jungle-clearing projects. They insist on continuing assurances from their suppliers that all palm fruit oil purchased for Earth Balance complies with the RSPO policies and we would not hesitate to terminate suppliers that violate these policies.”
Q: Is your sugar vegan?
A: Yes! Our sugar is not processed with animal bone char (yuck!).
Q: Are your products Kosher certified?
A: Yes! Sweet & Sara is proud to be kosher certified by Rabbi Zev Schwarcz of the International Kosher Council.
Q: Are your products GMO-free?
A: Yes! Our entire line is non-GMO (except the rice crispy treats which will be soon)!
Q: Where is your chocolate sourced?
A: Our chocolate is not sourced from Western Africa, which supplies 70% of the world’s cocoa and where child labor still exists in some areas. We are an approved company on The Food Empowerment Project list, as a company that uses ethically sourced chocolate.
Q: Do you plan to make organic marshmallows?
A: We hope to produce organic vegan marshmallows in the near future, but right now the high cost of organic ingredients would mean we would have to charge our customers more than we’re willing to for our marshmallows.

Our Products

Q: What is the shelf life of Sweet & Sara marshmallows and smores?
A: Our marshmallows and smores should be stored in the refrigerator for maximum freshness. This preserves their taste and texture. In the refrigerator or freezer, our marshmallows and smores remain fresh for 6 months. Since Sweet & Sara treats are best enjoyed at room temperature, let them “thaw” a bit before eating. Our treats can be left out in a cool, non-humid area for up to 8 weeks!
Q: Your products are refrigerated—what happens if they are left outside?
A: As long as they are in a cool area, they can be left out unrefrigerated at room temperature for 2 months. For a longer shelf life, marshmallows and smores should be stored in the refrigerator or freezer for maximum freshness. This preserves their taste and texture.
Q: Do your marshmallows taste like “real” marshmallows?
A: Vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike tell us they taste better! The flavor, texture, and whole Sweet & Sara experience far surpass conventional marshmallows. And yes, they do melt! You’ve got to try it to believe it!
Q: What are some ways to enjoy Sweet & Sara marshmallows?
A: You can enjoy our marshmallows just as you would any other marshmallow. Dunk them into hot cocoa. Roast them over a campfire. Melt them into rice crispy treats or on top of your favorite ice cream. Mix them into brownies for a rocky road effect. Dip them in chocolate fondue. Add them to holiday yams. Sweeten coffee or tea. Or, our favorite: simply enjoy them as they are! The possibilities are endless. Have fun! Check out our recipe page!
Q: Why are the marshmallows slightly different in size?
A: Our delicious marshmallows are made in small batches by hand and not mass-produced with industrial machines.
Q: Why is there a bunny on your packaging?
A: When Sara was eleven years old, she fell madly in love with a bunny she adopted, named Skipper, who changed the way she viewed animals. At 13, Sara became a vegetarian, and a year later, vegan. Sara was blessed to have Skipper for over seven years and as little as she was, she made a huge impact on Sara’s life. The bunny logo represents Skipper and her paw of approval that no animals were harmed in the making of Sweet & Sara marshmallows!
Q: How many marshmallows are in one package? How big is a smore?
A: There are approximately 20-24 marshmallows in one package. The smores is a 3 inch square and roughly 1 inch in height.
